A tuft for Tuesday

by imagist on May 31, 2011

The Leica User Group has been discussing the use of sharpening when post processing digital camera files. The Leica M8, M9 and DMR use CCD sensors without anti-alias filters. A number of us on the list believe that increases the rendering of fine detail and makes the use of sharpening an optional, aesthetic choice, rather than a necessary one.

The photograph below, from a RAW DMR file was processed in Lightroom with image sharpening at 0, and Output sharpening at OFF.

Hey George,
This image reminded me of a book by Karl Blossfeldt (1863-1032) entitled “Art Forms in the Plant World.” All his images are in B+W, but show incredible detail, as many of the images are magnified. There is great contrast in his images, which is contrary to the softness of your photos here.

Sometimes we not only need to stop and smell the roses, but appreciate the more “common” elements that make up the diversity of the landscape around us. How many times does one get down on hands and knees to appreciate such as this, that you have captured?

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth His handiwork…” Psalm 19.

Thanks for sharing the images.

….Dan
