For the past couple years I’ve posted a Photograph A Week (PAW) on my web site. The PAW files from 2007 can be seen here.

For 2008 I’ll transition to post the PAWs on this blog. While this image is not the pick for this week (50); it does come from the past week’s exploration of the world of water in solid form. More alternates for this week can be seen here.

Imagination in harmony with truth – sliced out of time and space

Photography = selection, composition and light; sliced out of space and time; usually within a fraction of a second.

“Some people’s photography is an art. Not mine. Art is a dirty word in photography. All this fine art crap is killing it already.” Helmut Newton

People seem to desire truth based on unembellished physical evidence. A witness with a camera appears to provide such evidence. Yet, people also possess appetites for imagination. So the best photography seems to ride the flux of real experience and the flow of imagination. The photograph seems burdened with anxieties over authenticity and verification; while blessed with imaginative discovery.

Dan Nauman’s Iron and Kevin Meyers’ inspiration

Printing photographs of iron work by Dan Nauman bighornforge.com today. I’ve photographed Dan’s beautiful work for a number of years now, along with developing and hosting his web site. He’ll submit these prints to the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association http://www.nomma.org/; for consideration in their Top Job competition.

Simultaneously, I’m creating a dvd for Kevin Meyers, a motivational speaker http://www.mytruevision.net. Some years ago I developed Kevin’s logo, letterhead and business card.

Creativity, Drive, Discovery, Exploration

creativity = the drive
to discover, explore, rearrange,
isolate and frame elements

the arrangement’s beauty, eloquence
and/or ability to stir the body, mind and spirit
over time
determine the usefulness and/or value
as art or Art

The last week brought visual exploration of a mirror appearing within the subject area of photographs; with the intent of bringing additional environmental or subject information into the frame.

A few of these explorations can be viewed at: http://imagist.com/paw_07/07_wk_49/index.html along with other winter photographic contemplations.

Philippe Orlent, an internet friend residing in Belgium, forwarded this link http://www.roeljacobs.be/?page=gallery05&gall=05a&pict=01 as an historical reference to Roel Jacobs, who explored this “Simultaneous Presence” territory back in the 70’s.
