Leica R8/DMR, 60 mm Macro Elmarit
This past week /
i reflected on past times /
as i repaired a 100 year old fountain pen /
with flexible 14 k gold tines /
and a sac gone brittle into dust /
(Settles Supremacy Pen, photographed with iPhone 6s, iPro S2 Century Macro)
Then, on this overcast, chilly, fall morning /
I pickup a lens made in 1970 (Leica made 1,000 of them that year) /
and attach it to a Visoflex III, made sometime between 1961 and 1984 /
and attach all that to a full frame digital Leica /
that only makes black and white image files /
and in doing all of that /
i actually seem to ‘connect’ /
with a younger version of myself /

…mine and others, bind it, fold it, make marks on it,
with graphite, ink, typewriter ribbons, charcoal, water color, hot wax,
call them poems, drawings, sketches, short stories, journals, memories
reproduce them with intaglio, engravings, lithographs, etchings, photographs,
…impressions, expressions, eye candy, communications,
fold it, crumble it, tear it, cut it, punch it, wrap something up with it,
even a relationship,
feel it, show me, does it bleed, the ink I mean.

Robin, Shamrock, Fresh, Warm, Bread …
Surely a poem can be found
between and around those words,
in the morning, in the spring time,
if I look long, listen, and smell softly.

together…
Something living and growing.
Something full of the potential to live and grow.
Raw material which can become something entirely new.
These three objects sit on my desk.
Diffused light falls across them
from a large window, north facing, with a white fabric shade.
They beg to be photographed, arranged, drawn, seen, appreciated.
Though that seems to be true of everything, everyone, and everyplace.
When one loves seeing.
