the answer became clear
as I watched
the leaf hug the ice.

It blew in the summer breeze
sucked up the sun’s rays
transformed carbon dioxide into oxygen
evaporated water drawn through tendrils rooted deep in the earth
Then it separated from its earth bound branch
travelled, alone, through space, on the winds
floated downstream
Now… momentarily still… full of Chlorophil…
on its way… to becoming earth itself
