“Phenomena of Being. Missing.”

…the working title of this recently completed encaustic painting.
Though words seem to interfere with visual aesthetic experience:

Encaustic paint, on stretched fabric, and RC silver print, ruined by flood.
I found myself unable to throw away this particular scratched and ruined print,
with the others which were laminated to it by moisture.
I’d soaked the stack for days; hoping to separate and save the memories.
This photograph was made on the Eastern shore of the Great Lake Michigan;
sometime around 2005; give or take a few years.
This encaustic painting was created on the Western shore of the Great Lake Michigan in 2023.

Been a Long Time Coming…

A whole lot of sand
has poured through the hourglass of my life
since last I posted here

I’ve lost people, places and things
over the past many years
and now find myself alone

Near the western shores
of the Great Lake Michigan
“home of the good spirit”

In the days before settlement,
our area was named Manitowoc
by the Native Americans
who called this area their home.
Manitowoc, meaning home of the good spirit,
was regarded as a magical place
for the mixed bands of Ottowa,
Potawatomi, Menominee and Ojibwa people.

And from here, and now,
I hope to renew my self
as well as this imagist/blog

leaf prints. I love them. and this:
“How do I really feel? Like a leaf. As long as I’m needed, in vigor or decay, I’ll be here. And this is my blessing, to want nothing, to need nothing, to love everything, even my very own end; to express joy in uncertainty, vulnerability, and pain; to be astonished by birth, again and again; to be color when melody is near; to speak without shame and say without fear, I don’t know. I’m falling. How sweet is the air!”
