Friday: flowers…

must be shopped for
when snow covers the ground;
and temperatures read as negative numbers.

I didn’t purchase any.
Though I did think about Rabs
(Mark Rabiner, who photographs
thousands of cut flowers while strolling the nights
and streets of New York city)
as I looked through the view finder.

Once upon a time…

It blew in the summer breeze
sucked up the sun’s rays
transformed carbon dioxide into oxygen
evaporated water drawn through tendrils rooted deep in the earth

Then it separated from its earth bound branch
travelled, alone, through space, on the winds
floated downstream
Now… momentarily still… full of Chlorophil…
on its way… to becoming earth itself

Hog “heaven”

Milwaukee based Harley Davidson celebrated their 110th anniversary a couple weeks ago. One of the big dealers, Suburban Motors, is located in our little town of Thiensville, WI. The party ran for a week. Needless to say the the audio/visual noise quickly became a bit over-the-top for many — me among them. The often unmuffled pipes roared past our home from 7 am ’til 2 or 3 am every day; all week long.

The last Friday of the party I bicycled into town, intending to do some photography. Everyone seemed to wear the same basic “uniform” with only the slightest variations. The noise — unpleasant. The sea of bikes made it difficult to even begin to appreciate any potential visual nuances. The unique photographs I thought I’d find – seemed buried in a sea of chrome, denim and leather. After 20 minutes I peddled slowly and silently home — after making only 4 exposures. Very odd — for me.
