Friday: snapping dragons with the 1970 65mm Elmar

by imagist on June 8, 2012

Sometimes the subject and/or assignment dictates the equipment which one must choose. At other times a photographer may choose the equipment simply for the pleasure of using a particular tool. The 65mm Elmar (as well as the 135mm Elmar) on the Visoflex III, with the stove pipe viewer, provide this photographer with a meditative/contemplative experience. This meditative intuitive—connection of eye/hands : tool : subject has to do with the size and weight — how it feels in the hand, the manual/mechanical aspects, the reversed image on the ground glass, as well as the rendering these lenses provide — all come together to feed the soul.
