Too much? or Not enough?

by imagist on January 21, 2011

Over the last few days the Leica Users Group (LUG) email list has discussed post processing effects; and very strong opinions and feelings about the use of HDR (High Dynamic Range) and other effect plug ins, filters and PS (Photoshop) actions have been expressed. I have here two different interpretations of the same RAW file. I like them both for different reasons. What do you think? Do you have a preference? Why?

like top “snow detail” not rocks -to much texture-
like bottom -nice rock tones- seems better with less texture -truer to observed nature controled values with out excessive detail
though think two snowes combined 70%top- darkend to bottom photo Nearly sublime in my mind!
Wonderful in all casses though!

I prefer the second image. It’s like we were saying about HD TV being too hard on the eyes. I don’t want to see things in painful sharpness and detail. That said, they’re both really interesting and enjoyable to look at.
