Friday’s flower

While I’m not often a fan of “catalog” photographs of flowers. Occasionally a specimen demands to simply be presented for its own perfect beauty. Such was the case with this peonie. Usually my peonies appear either bloomed out or barely opened. Rarely do I see the moment when the flowers are simply perfect. As I walked to the mail box this one simply called out, “…dude – look at me – I’m perfect – now – and only for this instant – in this specific light…”

Friday: snapping dragons with the 1970 65mm Elmar

Sometimes the subject and/or assignment dictates the equipment which one must choose. At other times a photographer may choose the equipment simply for the pleasure of using a particular tool. The 65mm Elmar (as well as the 135mm Elmar) on the Visoflex III, with the stove pipe viewer, provide this photographer with a meditative/contemplative experience. This meditative intuitive—connection of eye/hands : tool : subject has to do with the size and weight — how it feels in the hand, the manual/mechanical aspects, the reversed image on the ground glass, as well as the rendering these lenses provide — all come together to feed the soul.

Friday: violet

neither red nor blue
this secondary hue
invites both
to mingle and dance

Am I the only one who finds the word “purple” dull and uninteresting. I truly love the word violet and especially “ultraviolet.” It seems totally appropriate sitting on the opposite end of the spectrum from “infrared.” (while ultrapurple simply does not work at all)
