Midnight ride
After hours of discussion
on awakenings, and spiral dynamics, and tribes, and commitment, and communities…
Under a full moon, without artificial light, surrounded by fireflies, or lightening bugs,
I bicycled 4 miles of the Inter Urban Trail; through the cool midnight air.
Black velvet shadows cast across the path.
So quiet. So strange. So trusting of this 70 year old body. So enchanting.
Monday’s bike ride to Lion’s Den Gorge
on the Western shore of the Great Lake Michigan.

Been an interesting week… which began ANEW last Saturday…
when I went to look at, and took possession of, a used, large frame (35″ inseam),
relatively current, 2008, road bike, found on Craigs List, at a price that I can almost afford.
Seventy miles, and few thousand calories burned, later; I love to ride again.
I enjoyed riding my “burro” (an early 80s Miyata Trail Runner) for the last 30 years.
But I have not “loved” riding; sitting upright; on that large cushy saddle.
Not like I loved the 70s Motobecane Grand Tour (stolen) and Motobecane Grand Record which replaced the Tour.
I’d actually forgotten the speed and efficiency of a well designed road bike that “fits.”
Now I’m remembering past rides out to Monches and Holy Hill and all around the East Side;
and biking up the Locust Street hill with little Tanya in the Canondale Bugger trailer.
So here’s my “last” bike… a Motobecane Super Strada… a decent and “efficient” rode ride.

The second bike ride of summer
14 mile round trip to the Germantown Library.
One Hour and fifty five minutes; including a 5 minute walk around the library; a 10 minute walk around a “yard sale;”
and a couple photographs along the way; and home.
Heart monitor says I burned 1,300 calories; so that’s a good thing.
But the Library was closed for the 4th of July holiday; even though the “internet” said they were open.

For the past few weeks
the thought keeps passing through my photographer mind,
“the 2x Apo Extender on the 350 mm Telyt-R would make a 700 mm f:8+;”
