walking along / attracted to pickup / look closer / understand / the incomprehensible /
remains / gnawed / dried / always returning /
back to the study / to contemplate /

 through time and space… and away / focus your heart-mind on a dearly departed friend / and his survivors /
as you mix 3 different flours with water, sourdough starter, salt and sugar / focus your heart-mind on memories of each of them /
as you stretch and letter fold the dough / first one way then ninety degrees the other way / every forty five minutes / for 3 hours /
remember / stretch / remember / fold / remember / fold / remember / turn / remember / stretch / remember / fold / remember / fold / remember / let it rest for 45 minutes / repeat / repeat / repeat
bake in all the memories, love and joy for this friend and his family /

this little loaf for me / a larger loaf to nourish those who sit shiva / our lives intersecting now and again over the decades /
then never again… / passed away they say / leaving only these memories / these breads / these words / these photographs

And another also departed this past week / leaving different trails of intersections / of memories / of joys and sorrows
