Why do we hang on to the trappings of our past for so long? Yesterday I strained my body moving the Durst Laborator 184, with CLS 301 color head out of the old Mequon Road House darkroom; with the help of Chad Davis; who drove up from Chicago to get the enlarger for his brother <a href=\"http:\/\/chrisdavisphoto.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Davis<\/a>; who purchased the beast and will actually put to good use. Sad to see the end of an era for me. Very glad that the Durst, a state of the art professional tool, will go back to work instead of to the recycling center.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Chris can slow the inevitable \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/theliteratelens.com\/2012\/02\/17\/magnum-and-the-dying-art-of-darkroom-printing\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Dying Art of Darkroom Printing<\/a> \u2014\u00a0Well worth the read.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imagist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/L1000594.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9294 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.imagist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/L1000594-e1411995295939.jpg\" alt=\"L1000594\" width=\"465\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A couple weeks earlier all the paper went into the back of an SUV; into the hands of someone who may actually project light on to the surface and magically bring images to life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imagist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/L1000584.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9292 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.imagist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/L1000584-e1411995424417.jpg\" alt=\"L1000584\" width=\"800\" height=\"389\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Now all that&#8217;s left is to find a good home for the two Durst Laborator 138 S and the Leitz V35 w\/Variable Contrast head.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imagist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/L1000593.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9293 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.imagist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/L1000593-e1411995532494.jpg\" alt=\"L1000593\" width=\"535\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Leica M, 28 mm Summicron Asph<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When do we actually let go of our past?
