Forty (or so) years ago poet <strong>Philip Whalen<\/strong> wrote:<\/p>\n<p>Our main difficulty: fear and distrust of freedom<\/p>\n<p>In America we&#8217;ve been fighting each other 100 years<br \/>\nWe pretend we&#8217;re unimaginably rich<br \/>\nBut we&#8217;re poor and afraid of the poor who must become<br \/>\nThe Army to defend us against right and wrong<\/p>\n<p>The real shame of America is the lack of an anti-clerical<br \/>\nMovement or party. All parties try to compound<br \/>\nWith invisible State Protestant Church that theoretically<br \/>\nDoesn&#8217;t exist. Rubes who think of themselves as<br \/>\nMembers in good standing are bilked and robbed<\/p>\n<p>When did the dumb-bunny bomb first hit U.S.A?<br \/>\nHow come everybody appreciated it so much?<br \/>\nAlmost all Americans aged 4 to 100<br \/>\nHave the spiritual natures of Chicago policemen<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imagist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/l1003849.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-456 aligncenter\" title=\"l1003849\" src=\"http:\/\/www.imagist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/l1003849.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"659\" height=\"424\" \/><\/a>Singer\/songwriter <strong>Shawn Mullins <\/strong>performed at the historic Pabst Theatre\u00a0Sunday, 9\/21\/08\u00a0(with Dar Williams headlining).\u00a0Shawn reinforced my belief in the power of a talented story teller with a deep heart and a guitar. His character sketches bring to mind the people we&#8217;ve all met along life&#8217;s highway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Selected &#8220;photographic&#8221; lyrics from <em>Another Look <\/em>by Shawn Mullins<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Another look into her might just free me now.<br \/>\nI feel the drowning pounding of her pain<br \/>\nand her dreams like eyes,<br \/>\nas she looks into my sin.<br \/>\nSo knowing where and why she&#8217;s looking through my window.<br \/>\nThe cameraman wants to take her picture.<br \/>\nNow words spill out of hearts onto the stone,<br \/>\nand her image ties the knot of never knowing<br \/>\nthe whole truth from lies.<br \/>\nFeels like I&#8217;m just now showing pictures to the man<br \/>\nwhose dreams are realized.<br \/>\nHe&#8217;s older now but he&#8217;s got newborn eyes.<br \/>\nAnother look into her might just set me free.<br \/>\nI took her like a shot into my arm<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Headline about sums up my life.
